MANHATTAN, Kansas – Former K-State defender Silke Bonnen has signed a professional contract with HB Koge (pronounced Koog) in the Elitedivisionen of Danish football. Bonnen is the first former Wildcat to sign a professional contract.

"Silke was the brains for our backline," said K-State head coach Mike Dibbini. "She will definitely be missed. I'm so proud of what she has accomplished here at K-State. Her ambition was to be a professional soccer player and for her to be able to play pro in front of her family is awesome for her.

"She will be our very first pro player from K-State and leave a legacy that will show future Wildcats that their soccer journey can keep growing after K-State. I can't wait to watch her at the professional level and be her biggest fan."

Bonnen, a product of Copenhagen, Denmark, played in 27 career matches with 26 consecutive starts to conclude her career in Manhattan. She recorded over 2,200 minutes played and set the school record for minutes played by a freshman with 1,456.

A 2020 Academic All-Big 12 selection, Bonnen registered two career assists, including on the game-winning goal against Oklahoma on October 16, 2020. For her efforts against the Sooners, Bonnen was named to the October 20 TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.

Prior to joining K-State in 2019, Bonnen played for Ballerup-Skovlunde Fodbold in the Elitedivisionen as an amateur. In two seasons with BSF, Bonnen started 37 matches and registered over 3,000 minutes of playing time along the backline.

HB Koge is currently in first-place in the Elitedivisionen with 26 points (8-2-2). Due to increased cases of COVID-19 in Denmark, the 2020-21 season was suspended in November. HB Koge is slated to resume its season on February 1, 2021, with its final three matches of the season.

K-State capped its Big 12-only schedule with a record of 3-6-0. This marked the most wins in league play since the program started as a member of the Big 12 in 2017.

The Wildcats, winners of three of their final five matches, also clinched a seventh-place finish in the league standings which marked its highest finish in the league standings.
