TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State (2-3, 0-2 ACC) fell for the second straight game to Pitt (5-1, 2-0), dropping Saturday’s game at Dick Howser Stadium 7-2 in front of 1,605. Pitt’s Matt Gilbertson (2-0) struck out 10 batters in six innings, and the Panther bullpen struck out six over the final three frames.

The Seminole bats were livelier than in the series opener, a 1-0 loss, notching 10 hits Saturday evening. FSU’s two runs came on Reese Albert’s double off the top of the centerfield wall, a play that was originally scored a three-run home run.
Carson Montgomery (0-1) lasted just one inning, walking three and allowing a hit. Both runs against him were unearned.
Pitt led 7-0 before Albert’s two-run double in the eighth inning.
Wyatt Crowell and Andrew Armstrong made their first appearances on the mound for the Seminoles. Crowell entered in relief of Montgomery and struck out a batter in 1.2 innings, allowing one unearned run. He also picked off a runner at first base, the first pick off for a Seminole pitcher this season. Armstrong struck out a batter in 0.1 innings pitched.
Pitt scored three unearned runs in the second inning. A throwing error allowed the first run to score, then Kyle Hess hit a two-run single through the right side that pushed the Pitt lead to 3-0.
Nico Popa hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning that gave Pitt a 5-0 advantage. The Panthers added runs in the sixth and eighth innings.
Catcher Mat Nelson threw out Bryce Hulett trying to steal in the fifth inning, the second runner he has thrown out in five games. Nelson added two hits at the plate, joining Albert, Elijah Cabell and Logan Lacey with a pair of hits Saturday.
Relief pitcher Tyler Ahearn threw 2.1 innings and tied a career-high with five strikeouts. As a unit, FSU struck out 12 Pitt batters.
Florida State and Pitt will face off in the series finale Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The game will stream live on the ACC Network Extra.
