COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican baseball team returns to action this week with a four-game series at Great Midwest rival Trevecca Nazarene.

SETTING THE SCENE

  • Ohio Dominican, who has been off since March 14, will resume competition with a four-game road set in Nashville, beginning with a 1 p.m. (CDT) doubleheader on Friday, March 26.
  • The Panthers and Trojans will then play another doubleheader beginning at noon (CDT) on Saturday, March 27.

NOTE: No visiting team spectators will be permitted into the venue. Live stats and video links will be available prior to the start of the series on the ODU schedule page.

PANTHERS OPEN G-MAC PLAY WITH FOUR-GAME SPLIT AT HILLSDALE

  • ODU's last appearance saw the Panthers split a doubleheader with Hillsdale on Sunday, March 14.
  • The two sides traded wins the two days prior, leaving ODU with a 10-2 overall and 2-2 G-MAC record.
  • The Black & Gold scored nine or more runs in three of the four outings, including 9-6 and 9-5 victories.
  • ODU hit .276 as a team over the four-game set and were led by sophomores Alex Brill (Amherst, Ohio) and David Silva (Tontogany, Ohio), who both batted over .400.
  • On the mound, freshman Michael Lesiecki (Uhrichsville, Ohio) and redshirt freshman Myles Martinez (Columbus, Ohio) each registered their first collegiate victories.

TEAM RANKINGS

  • With the most recent national poll from the NCBWA coming out on March 17, the Panthers were in the receiving votes category for the second consecutive week.
  • ODU went from one vote to six in the most edition of the poll.
  • The Panthers rank third in the conference in both batting average (.292) and ERA (4.55).
  • ODU leads the G-MAC and ranks top 25 nationally in scoring offense, averaging 9.1 runs per game.
  • On the bases, ODU leads the G-MAC with 53 stolen bases, averaging 4.42 swipes per game. Both its season total and steals average are top five marks across Division II.

BALANCED OFFENSE

  • ODU's offensive success can be attributed to its lineup depth this spring. Six different players are batting over .320 through 12 games.
  • Silva paces the Panthers with a .381 average, which is top 10 in the G-MAC for players with double-digit games played. The sophomore infielder has a .519 on-base percentage, and his 15 RBI and 11 stolen bases are both second on the team and top five marks in the conference.
  • Graduate senior Jace Komminsk (Westerville, Ohio) has a team-best 18 RBI and is second on the squad with a .342 average. Komminsk has shown some pop early on this spring with five doubles and two home runs.
  • Six Panthers have scored double-digit runs so far, led by 21 from Brill. The sophomore has scored three runs in three games this season, and enters the TNU series with a hit in four of the past five outings.
  • Juniors Thomas Staab (Bellville, Ohio) and Zac Wilson (Hamilton, Ohio) are both hitting over .300 as well. Staab has multiple steals in four games this season, including a conference record-tying five swipes against Fairmont State (March 7). Staab's 14 steals pace the G-MAC and are fourth most nationally.

FRESH FACES SUCCEEDING ON THE MOUND

  • The Panthers have mainly relied on their newcomers to steer the ship on the bump. Five of the team's top six pitchers, in terms of innings thrown, are pitching for the Black & Gold for the first time this spring.
  • Sophomore Grayson Hamilton (Lebanon, Ohio) leads the group with a 2.00 ERA and joins freshman Scott Rouse (Hinckley, Ohio) as the team leaders in innings thrown with over 18 each. Hamilton and Rouse each have a team-high 17 strikeouts as well.
  • Freshman Derek Bolander (Oregon, Ohio) has four saves in four appearances this spring. Bolander has not allowed an earned run over 8.1 innings of action, and has eight strikeouts.

ABOUT TREVECCA

  • Trevecca is off to a strong start this season with an 8-3 overall record.
  • The Trojans opened their G-MAC campaign last weekend with a four-game road sweep of Malone. TNU scored five-plus runs in each game, including a 17-2 win in a seven-inning game.
  • Trevecca was picked fifth in the preseason G-MAC coaches poll, one spot ahead of the Panthers.
  • ODU and TNU have played six times since the Panthers joined the Division II ranks, with the Trojans hold a 4-2 series edge.
  • The last meeting between the two sides came in Nashville in 2019. ODU and TNU split a four-game series, with ODU recording 4-3 and 12-2 wins.
