Baseball Opens Eight-Game Homestand with Four Against UAlbany - Hartfordhawks.com

HARTFORD HAWKS (8-10, 8-10 AE) vs. UALBANY GREAT DANES (12-13, 10-8 AE)
 
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team returns home after a 10-game road trip, as it plays host to UAlbany for a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. Friday's doubleheader will be played at Fiondella Field, with first pitch set for noon. Saturday's contests will be held at Dunkin' Donuts Park, the home of the Hartford Yard Goats, with the opener set for noon.

HARTFORD ATHLETICS SPECTATOR POLICY (FRIDAY, APRIL 22)

  • In accordance with the America East Conference, state and local guidelines, the Hartford Department of Athletics will allow a limited number of guests to attend outdoor athletic contests
  • No guests from the visiting team will be permitted to attend home contests held on the University of Hartford's campus
  • Failure to abide by this policy will result in removal from the venue and campus

  • The Hawks open an eight-game homestand, starting with four games this weekend against UAlbany

  • Hartford split a doubleheader this past Saturday at Maine
  • Maine took game one, 11-0, but Hartford bounced back to secure the nightcap, 7-0
  • Senior Drew DeMartino led the offense in game two with one hit and two RBI
  • Sophomores Tremayne Cobb Jr. and Tenney drove in one run apiece in the win
  • Sunday's doubleheader was canceled out of an abundance of caution, due to an ongoing campus investigation of a threat made on social media

UALBANY SCOUT
  • UAlbany comes into the series at 12-13 on the season and 10-8 in the America East 
  • Most recently, the Great Danes came away with three wins in its four-game series against UMass Lowell this past weekend
  • UAlbany took Saturday's game one, 18-4, before dropping the nightcap, 5-2
  • The Great Danes bounced back on Sunday for a doubleheader sweep, 4-1 and 11-10
  • Leading the offense with 13 hits and nine RBI, senior Alex Thule sports a .325 batting average
  • Redshirt-freshman Cregg Scherrer leads the starters with two wins, a 4.30 ERA and 15 strikeouts over 23.0 innings pitched

  • The Hawks scored five unanswered runs through seven innings, before hanging on to defeat the Great Danes, 5-3, on the third day of the America East Tournament on May 24, 2019
  • Graduate student Zachary Ardito led the offense with three RBI in the victory
  • Senior Will Nowak tossed a cleat sheet in the ninth inning to secure the save

  • The two sides have met 78 times as conference mates prior to this weekend's games
